Zusammenfassung: | "In this study, sociologist Elizabeth Heger Boyle examines this controversial issue from the perspectives of the international system, governments, and individuals. Drawing on previous scholarship, records of international organizations, demographic surveys, and the popular media, Boyle examines how the issue is perceived and acted upon at international, national, and individual levels. Grounding her work in the sociological theory of neoinstitutionalism, Boyle describes how the choices made by governments and individual women are influenced by the often conflicting principles of individual human rights and sovereign autonomy. She concludes that, while globalization may exacerbate such conflicts, it can ultimately lead to social change."--Jacket |

She concludes that, while globalization may exacerbate such conflicts, it can ultimately lead to social change."--Jacket</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Print version record.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Female genital mutilation</subfield><subfield code="x">Prevention.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Female genital mutilation</subfield><subfield code="x">Government policy.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Female genital mutilation</subfield><subfield code="x">Religious aspects.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">World health.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85148199</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Medical policy.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85083002</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Social values.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85124083</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Circumcision, Female</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D019093</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Health Policy</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D006291</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Social Values</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D012945</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="2" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Global Health</subfield><subfield code="0">https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D014943</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Santé mondiale.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Politique sanitaire.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Valeurs sociales.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">SOCIAL SCIENCE</subfield><subfield code="x">Customs & Traditions.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Social values</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Medical policy</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Female circumcision</subfield><subfield code="x">Prevention</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">World health</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Circumcisie.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Vrouwen.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Clitoridectomie.</subfield><subfield code="0">(NL-LeOCL)07847048X</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Boyle, Elizabeth Heger, 1962-</subfield><subfield code="t">Female genital cutting.</subfield><subfield code="d">Baltimore : Johns Hopkins University Press, 2002</subfield><subfield code="z">0801870631</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 2001008638</subfield><subfield code="w">(OCoLC)48691380</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=75623</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Askews and Holts Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">ASKH</subfield><subfield code="n">AH35310955</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Baker & Taylor</subfield><subfield code="b">BKTY</subfield><subfield code="c">37.00</subfield><subfield code="d">37.00</subfield><subfield code="i">0801870631</subfield><subfield code="n">0003872252</subfield><subfield code="s">active</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBL - Drawing on previous scholarship, records of international organizations, demographic surveys, and the popular media, Boyle examines how the issue is perceived and acted upon at international, national, and individual levels. Grounding her work in the sociological theory of neoinstitutionalism, Boyle describes how the choices made by governments and individual women are influenced by the often conflicting principles of individual human rights and sovereign autonomy.
