Zusammenfassung: | "Through the voice of the gnarled old tree, Elena Zamora O'Shea tells South Texas political and ethnographic history, filled with colorful details of daily life such as songs, local plants and folk medicines, foods and recipes, peone/patron relations, and the distinctive Tejano ranch vocabulary. The work, engaging and lively, is an important example of the historical-folkloristic literary genre used by Mexican American writers of the period. Using the literary device of the tree's narration, O'Shea raises issues of culture, discrimination, and prejudice she could not have addressed in her own voice in that day and explicitly states the Mexican American ideology of 1930s Texas. The result is a literary and history work of lasting value, which clearly and courageously articulates the Tejano claim to legitimacy in Texas history."--Jacket. |

The result is a literary and history work of lasting value, which clearly and courageously articulates the Tejano claim to legitimacy in Texas history."--Jacket.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Spanish Americans</subfield><subfield code="v">Fiction.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Pioneers</subfield><subfield code="v">Fiction.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Frontier and pioneer life</subfield><subfield code="v">Fiction.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Ethnic relations</subfield><subfield code="v">Fiction.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Texas, South</subfield><subfield code="v">Fiction.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Américains d'origine espagnole</subfield><subfield code="v">Romans, nouvelles, etc.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Pionniers</subfield><subfield code="v">Romans, nouvelles, etc.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Relations interethniques</subfield><subfield code="v">Romans, nouvelles, etc.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">FICTION</subfield><subfield code="x">Historical.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Ethnic relations</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Frontier and pioneer life</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Pioneers</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Spanish Americans</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">South Texas</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">American Literature.</subfield><subfield code="2">hilcc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">English.</subfield><subfield code="2">hilcc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Languages & Literatures.</subfield><subfield code="2">hilcc</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Fiction</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Historical fiction.</subfield><subfield code="2">gsafd</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Tijerina, Andrés.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="700" ind1="1" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Garza-Falcón, Leticia.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">O'Shea, Elena Zamora.</subfield><subfield code="t">Mesquite.</subfield><subfield code="d">College Station : Texas A & M University Press, ©2000</subfield><subfield code="z">0890969663</subfield><subfield code="w">(DLC) 00041158</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Rio Grande/Río Bravo ;</subfield><subfield code="v">no. 4.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="0"><subfield code="l">FWS01</subfield><subfield code="p">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield><subfield code="q">FWS_PDA_EBA</subfield><subfield code="u">https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=48780</subfield><subfield code="3">Volltext</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">EBSCOhost</subfield><subfield code="b">EBSC</subfield><subfield code="n">48780</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="938" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">YBP Library Services</subfield><subfield code="b">YANK</subfield><subfield code="n">2327511</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="994" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">92</subfield><subfield code="b">GEBAY</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="912" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">ZDB-4-EBA</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="049" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">DE-863</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
