Zusammenfassung: | Disagreements about justice are not simply academic matters. They create problems for practice and for policy-making. In a morally fragmented society in which 'nobody knows what justice is' issues such as wages policy, punishment and poverty become particularly difficult to handle. People striving to act justly are often uncertain how this might be done. Secular theories such as those of Rowls, Hayek, Habermas and modern feminist theorists, examined here, give some guidance for problems of justice that arise on the ground, but have serious limitations. This book argues that Christian theology, although it can no longer claim to provide a comprehensive theory of justice, can provide insights into justice - 'theological fragments' - which give illumination, challenge some aspects of the conventional wisdom, and contribute to the building of just communities in which people may flourish in mutuality and hope. |

Secular theories such as those of Rowls, Hayek, Habermas and modern feminist theorists, examined here, give some guidance for problems of justice that arise on the ground, but have serious limitations. This book argues that Christian theology, although it can no longer claim to provide a comprehensive theory of justice, can provide insights into justice - 'theological fragments' - which give illumination, challenge some aspects of the conventional wisdom, and contribute to the building of just communities in which people may flourish in mutuality and hope.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="546" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">English.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Christianity and justice.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85025245</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Church and social problems.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85025528</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Christianity and politics.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85025283</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Political planning.</subfield><subfield code="0">http://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh85104377</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Justice</subfield><subfield code="x">Aspect religieux</subfield><subfield code="x">Christianisme.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Église et problèmes sociaux.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Christianisme et politique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="6"><subfield code="a">Politique publique.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Christianity</subfield><subfield code="x">General.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">RELIGION</subfield><subfield code="x">Christian Life</subfield><subfield code="x">Social Issues.</subfield><subfield code="2">bisacsh</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Christianity and justice</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Christianity and politics</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Church and social problems</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Political planning</subfield><subfield code="2">fast</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Rechtvaardigheid.</subfield><subfield code="0">(NL-LeOCL)078645786</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Christendom.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Rechtstheorie.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="1" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Theologie.</subfield><subfield code="2">gtt</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="655" ind1=" " ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Electronic books.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="758" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">has work:</subfield><subfield code="a">Christian justice and public policy (Text)</subfield><subfield code="1">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PCFvTgwBJRG8fcxdbVxy883</subfield><subfield code="4">https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ontology/hasWork</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Print version:</subfield><subfield code="a">Forrester, Duncan B., 1933-</subfield><subfield code="t">Christian justice and public policy.</subfield><subfield code="d">Cambridge, U.K. ; Theology and public policy yesterday and today -- 'Nobody knows what justice is': the problem of justice in a morally fragmented society -- Punishment and prisons -- Poverty -- Fairness is not enough -- Justice and the market -- Communication, gender and justice -- Lively and truthful survivals? -- Love, justice and justification -- Justice and community -- The hope of justice. Print version record. Disagreements about justice are not simply academic matters.
