Zusammenfassung: | This study focuses on the manifestation of Hegelianism as a current of thought, always multiple and varied, in the Portuguese intellectual landscape. It will encompass the dimensions of history, philosophy and politics, which are areas of knowledge and practice, but also present their own social and cultural spheres, where those thoughts sprang to life. The chronology of reference embraces a time of deep transformations, corresponding to the 1870's generation up until the new political course in 1933 (Salazarism), which makes Hegel's thought all the more interesting. Following the hypothesis that Hegelian developments in other cultural universes had, likewise, a reflex in Portugal, one of the main objectives of this study was the establishment of a possible typological framework. Since Hegel's ideas came to be understood through a process of interpretation and appropriation, this will imply a hermeneutical perspective regarding the subject of Hegelianism. The modern approaches of studying history, especially from the point of view of theory, owe much to the Berlin philosopher, because many concepts meant to understand recent traits of historical reflection trace back to him. His dialectical understanding will leave a lasting imprint on the discipline of philosophy. Finally, the ideas behind political struggles found in him an effective and dynamic theoretical basis. This led intellectuals in Portugal to seek for the philosopher’s dialectical attitude, which I endeavor to demonstrate from a collection of different sources, mostly mediated by other cultures but also more directly through Germanized Portuguese nationals. These marks appear in a variety of contexts and take different forms, such as studies, correspondences, translations or even political discourses. One could conclude that Hegelian philosophical currents were of utmost importance in the thinking about modernity and, even if not as thoroughly understood or studied as other intellectual movements, will probably have the most enduring presence in the Portuguese context. |
