Zusammenfassung:In a research project, Gabriele Anderl and Anneliese Schallmeiner focussed on art and antique dealers as well as galleries whose names appear in the export applications submitted to the Monuments Authority in Vienna between 1938 and 1945. It became clear that large quantities of cultural artefacts – many of them with undoubtedly problematic provenance – reached the former "Altreich" via the Austrian art trade. Those who profited from the persecution and expropriation of the Jewish population were not least Viennese dealers who were not affected by the discriminatory measures. By combining the results of this project with those of the cataloguing and documentation project of the Kunst handlung Julius Böhler at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich, important new insights can be gained and gaps in knowledge closed, as shown by the export applications relating to Julius Böhler in Munich.
