Zusammenfassung:When the Swiss Federal Council restricted the entry of artworks in the 1930s, private collectors and dealers had to submit an official application to import works of art. This requirement also impacted Munich art dealer Julius Böhler who had lively business relations in Switzerland with the Kunsthandel AG and the Theodor Fischer Gallery in Lucerne. A unique body of source material, preserved in the archives of the Righini-Fries Foundation in Zurich, provides information about the international connections between these art dealers. Based on two case studies, the article showcases how information located in the archives is linked and to which degree the documented transactions are congruent. These sources supply verifiable links in the chain of provenance and provide valuable information for researchers.
