Summary:In 1940, the Dresden Picture Gallery acquired the painting "Young Lady with Drawing Instrument – Countess Thekla, née Weyssenhoff" by the painter Carl Christian Vogel von Vogelstein. The gallery director Hans Posse had bought the painting from the Munich art dealer Julius Böhler. Further research revealed that the painting had been looted from the Jewish Rosauer sisters in Vienna in 1938. In 2011, the painting was restituted to the descendants of the former owners. Shortly afterwards, it was sold at an auction in London and reacquired for the Dresden State Art Collections. Since then, the painting has been on permanent display in the Albertinum. Visitors are told the dramatic story of the painting using various media and educational formats. It is an important example for explaining the significance of provenance research.
