Zusammenfassung:The collection of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MK&G) comprises 82 objects from the Kunsthandlung Julius Böhler. The acquisition period extends from 1892 to 1971 but the number cannot be considered complete, as the digital recording of the collection has not yet been finalised. There is no written record of the early purchases. Extensive correspondence with Böhler accompanies the acquisitions made by Erich Meyer as director of the MK&G between 1950 and 1960. The exchange of letters refers to offers and purchases, as well as consignments sent to Hamburg, which Meyer examined for originality and quality on Böhler’s behalf. As the director was responsible for restitutions at the MK&G in the post-war period and acted as an expert for victims in restitution proceedings, he also discussed provenance issues with Böhler.
