Zusammenfassung: | "Both personal and universal, Harris' oeuvre weaves together legacies of family dynamics, queer histories and Afro-cosmopolitanism. Gathering photographs, assemblages, video installations and archival selections from his celebrated and lesser-known series, Our first and last love charts new connections across the artistic practice of New York-based artist Lyle Ashton Harris (born 1965). Informed by an adolescence that unfolded in New York City and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, as well as several years spent living in Ghana, Harris explores the complexities of African and African American collective identity while forging his own personal narrative as a Black queer man. This book and its accompanying solo survey exhibition chronicles Harris' approach to representation and self-portraiture while tracing recurrent themes and formal techniques in his work over the last 35 years. Central to this curated selection is Harris' most recent series titled Shadow Works, mixed-media assemblages of photographic prints embedded in Ghanaian printed textiles with cowrie shells, pottery, handwritten notes, clippings of the artist's dreadlocks and other personal ephemera. In both the exhibition and its catalog, these works serve as thematic anchors underscoring Harris' layered approach to his ongoing creative explorations."--Publisher's website |

In both the exhibition and its catalog, these works serve as thematic anchors underscoring Harris' layered approach to his ongoing creative explorations."--Publisher's website Harris, Lyle Ashton 1965- (DE-588)138321299 gnd rswk-swf Fotografie (DE-588)4045895-7 gnd rswk-swf Assemblage (DE-588)4274878-1 gnd rswk-swf Video-Installation (DE-588)4347940-6 gnd rswk-swf Harris, Lyle Ashton / 1965- / Exhibitions Harris, Lyle Ashton / 1965- / Criticism and interpretation Artists / United States African American artists African American photographers Artistes - États-Unis Artistes noirs américains Photographes noirs américains exhibition catalogs Catalogues d'exposition (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Rose Art Museum 09.02.2023-02.07.2023 Waltham, Mass. gnd-content (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Nasher Museum of Art 24.08.2023-07.01.2024 Durham, NC gnd-content (DE-588)4135467-9 Ausstellungskatalog Queens Museum 19.05.2024-22.09.2024 New York gnd-content (DE-588)4145395-5 Bildband gnd-content Harris, Lyle Ashton 1965- (DE-588)138321299 p Fotografie (DE-588)4045895-7 s Assemblage (DE-588)4274878-1 s Video-Installation (DE-588)4347940-6 s DE-604 Haynes, Lauren (DE-588)1045163619 edt Rubin, Caitlin Julia (DE-588)1200945131 edt Queens Museum (DE-588)1349561967 his Rose Art Museum (DE-588)5117139-9 his Nasher Museum of Art (DE-588)10126409-4 his B:DE-14 V:DE-576 https://swbplus.bsz-bw.de/bsz1906371520inh.htm 20241024160753 Inhaltsverzeichnis |
