This time, the challenge is probably to compile an "image book" ("Bilderbuch") without a theme from the infinite pool—and to do so again and again, because these are, in the truest sense of the word, custom-made one-offs: The number, selection and combination of the photos differ from copy to copy depending on the ordering customer, who can determine the number of pages—within the range of 24 to 240 pages specified by the platform. Apart from that, there is no other possibility of influence. So the customer actually buys a "show bag" to be surprised by its contents. The price of each copy, which Schmid numbers and signs, is determined by the respective production plus shipping costs. The industrial print-on-demand model is thus joined here by an artistic produced-on-demand concept. |
