Zusammenfassung:"This book starts from a simple observation, which presents itself as an enigma: although perfectly justified and necessary, the struggles for the emancipation of women have for the most part remained inconsequential. Unlike social conquests clearly resulting from various mobilizations, the evolution of the status of women in society has not followed any strike, no large-scale demonstration, no blockade. And yet no one can deny that, even if they still have some way to go, women have come a long way in the last century and a half. At the crossroads of two themes, feminism and the environmental crisis, Véra Nikolski posits the 'materialist' hypothesis that it is the general enrichment of society, technical and more specifically medical progress that have allowed women to change their social and political status. Deliberately polemical, the title therefore knowingly links the improvement of the lot of women with the vast historical process initiated at the time of the industrial revolution and which we now know poses immense risks to our environment. And this in order to warn women: does the destabilization of the climate and the resource crisis not threaten to weaken or even reverse the equalization movement? And in this case, should we not abandon the logic of reclamation that characterizes current feminism to lead the fight on other grounds?"--Translation of text on back cover
