Zusammenfassung:" Chop Suey, is a bilingual book that records the Japanese Occupation in Singapore through 36 sketches and text, presenting a vivid description of the terrifying period. The author, pioneer artist Liu Kang, published the English and Chinese editions separately a year after the war. Prof Nakahara Michiko translated it and published the Japanese edition in 1990. Global Arts and Crafts Pte Ltd, the former name of Global Publishing, published the bilingual edition in 1991. After more than two decades, in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Japanese Occupation in Singapore and the 10th anniversary of the passing of the author, Global Publishing and World Scientific Publishing Co edited this "Commemorative Edition" based on the 1991 edition, in hope of reminding readers to cherish the peace we have now, and be reminded not to let the tragedy repeat itself. In the spirit of preserving the original content and respecting the author's will, this edition focuses more on the addition and updating of information, including new Forewords, annotations, and biographical information. The dimension and font size are increased for enhanced reading pleasure. We are very blessed to have received full support from the author's children, Dr Liu Thai Ker and Ms Liu Tow Sen, during the whole course of the project. " - Publisher's information
