An ardent iconophile, Sabas took care to present Peter as a staunch, uncompromising defender of the orthodox faith. He was particularly interested in presenting Peter as equal to the great ascetics of the past. Despite his zeal for preserving his hero's memory, Sabas did conceal occasional details that could harm his reputation.
