About the Author James Katalikawe is a Jurisconsult. He read Law at the London School of Economics (LSE), Harvard Law School, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). He is an internationalist and has lived and worked in several countries, including England, Malaysia and Uganda. His teaching and research interests include, Administrative Law, Constitutional Law, Law, International Trade Law. European Union International Economic Law and About the Book A Brief History of Local Government in Uganda examines the legal framework within which the Indigenous economic, political and social institutions were reconstructed and employed as agents of colonial rule from 1900 through to 1962. The potrait that emerges is a tale of how the development of Local Government was stymied by the policies designed to spare "the British taxpayer of the Uganda expense" with all the consequences that entails.
