| Zusammenfassung: | This book reconstructs the period spent by Marino Marini in Switzerland between 1943 and 1946: three crucial years, which determined a profound personal change and the evolution of his work towards a new plastic expressionism, in dialogue with the most advanced figurative research of his time. Following the traces of Marini’s studies on this period, and making use of largely unpublished documentary material, the author examines the many reasons that helped give rise to the image of the "new Marino": more spiritual, progressive and sensitive to the contemporary instances. How did Marini spend the years of his stay in Switzerland, immersed in a social and cultural context so dissimilar from his own, and in a financially difficult situation? How far did the anti-fascist environment in Switzerland influence his artistic sensibility and political orientation, then partly compromised with the support and recognition obtained by fascism? How was his work received and judged in the Swiss artistic and cultural milieu, characterised by a dominant eclecticism and a plurality of different artistic expressions? What ties can be found to the subsequent creative developments after his return to his homeland?
