Neither one, nor large, nor free, offers us the first complete and updated account of it, designed both for those who lived through those years and for those who want to rediscover and understand that decisive episode. We are faced with a history of the dictatorship whose protagonism no longer falls exclusively on General Francisco Franco, but on all Spaniards and which, above all, definitively calls into question the myth of a singularly different Spain. Nicolás Sesma, professor at the Grenoble Alpes University, collects the best contributions from national and international historiography to put them at the service of an ambitious and multidimensional reinterpretation. Thus, references are included to the entire national geography and to all social sectors{u2014}some of them present for the first time in a global history of the regime. Furthermore, the immediate post-war period and the 1970s deserve equal attention, the victory parades and the 25th Years of Peace, autarky and developmentalism, the political class and the anti-Franco opposition, the black market and consumer culture, the marginalized and the new middle classes.
