Zusammenfassung: | The figure of the witch is familiar from the work of early modern German, Dutch, and Flemish artists, but much less so in the work of their Italian counterparts. Art and Witchcraft in Early Modern Italy seeks to explore the ways in which representations of witchcraft emerged from and coincided with the main cultural currents and artistic climate of an epoch chiefly celebrated for its humanistic and rational approaches. Through an in-depth examination of a panoply of arresting paintings, engravings, and drawings-variously portraying a hag-ridden colossal phallus, a horror-stricken necromancer dodging the devil's scrabbling claws, and a nocturnal procession presided over by an infanticidal crone - Guy Tal offers new ways of reading witchcraft images through and beyond conventional iconography. Artists such as Parmigianino, Alessandro Allori, Leonello Spada, and Angelo Caroselli effected visual commentaries on demonological notions that engaged their audience in a tantalizing experience of interpretation |

Artists such as Parmigianino, Alessandro Allori, Leonello Spada, and Angelo Caroselli effected visual commentaries on demonological notions that engaged their audience in a tantalizing experience of interpretation Circe (DE-588)118676202 gnd rswk-swf Caravaggio, Michelangelo Merisi da 1571-1610 (DE-588)118519034 gnd rswk-swf Medea (DE-588)118579878 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1500-1650 gnd rswk-swf Witchcraft in art Witches in art Art, Italian / 16th century Art, Italian / 17th century Witchcraft / Italy / History / 16th century Witchcraft / Italy / History / 17th century Alter (DE-588)4001446-0 gnd rswk-swf Magie (DE-588)4036966-3 gnd rswk-swf Chimäre Fabeltiere (DE-588)4391430-5 gnd rswk-swf Phallus Motiv (DE-588)4316186-8 gnd rswk-swf Hexe Motiv (DE-588)4159813-1 gnd rswk-swf Hexerei (DE-588)4138802-1 gnd rswk-swf Teufel (DE-588)4059588-2 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 gnd rswk-swf Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 gnd rswk-swf Italien (DE-588)4027833-5 g Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Hexe Motiv (DE-588)4159813-1 s Hexerei (DE-588)4138802-1 s Teufel (DE-588)4059588-2 s Magie (DE-588)4036966-3 s Frau (DE-588)4018202-2 s Alter (DE-588)4001446-0 s Phallus Motiv (DE-588)4316186-8 s Geschichte 1500-1650 z DE-604 Circe (DE-588)118676202 p Medea (DE-588)118579878 p Chimäre Fabeltiere (DE-588)4391430-5 s Caravaggio, Michelangelo Merisi da 1571-1610 (DE-588)118519034 p Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9789463722599 https://doi.org/10.1017/9789048557363 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
