Zusammenfassung:This exhibition, which resonates with Leeum's characteristics as a place where ancient and contemporary art coexist and constantly redefine their relationships, consists of three new works based on Korea's cultural heritage and 10 national treasures owned by the museum. Based on her research, Gala Porras-Kim has explored the relationship between institutions, including museum collection management systems and national cultural heritage-related laws, and artifacts. She looks at the structure of an art museum through the classification and listing system of collections, the premise of preserving artifacts, and the way works are presented. In her work, information that has been lost over the long period of time before old artifacts reach us, letters that have faded and become indecipherable, and incomplete records that convey the journey of the artifacts come to the fore, which reflects the many uncertainties that exist in the place of an art museum. reveals.
Through works that recall the national treasures of South and North Korea and cultural assets exported during the Japanese colonial period, this exhibition examines how the country evaluates and manages relics and the context that the history of colonization and division gave to our cultural heritage. "National Treasures", which brings together the national treasures of North and South Korea, reminds us that South Korea's national treasures and North Korea's national treasures originally belonged to the same category as 'treasures of Joseon', and that, like imperialist Japan, South Korea, and North Korea, they were added in various ways over the course of history. We remind ourselves that each entity has designated and managed cultural heritage according to its own logic and needs. "37 Korean artifacts exported overseas during the Japanese colonial period" addresses the issue of cultural property leakage, a common challenge faced by countries that experienced colonial rule.
Furthermore, these works will be exhibited together with national treasures owned by Leeum Museum of Art to examine how the exhibition and preservation of relics are carried out
