RDOMILJE SUMMARY he village ofHardomiljeis one of the oldest standing of the municipality of Ljubuški. The discovery of the bronze spear dating from the beginning of the late Bronze Age prooves that the place has been populatend since the ancient times. There are also a lot of material archeologicalfinds from the Roman period showing that numerous Legions had been present on this territory. Croats and the people of Hardomilje had become Christians at the very beginning that in the surrounding of Roman culture had created a special type of a man with the virtues that have become, his heritage, his own spccicic, national characteristic·. T The book speaks about the Middle Ages in Hardomilje, the period of the Turkish Empire, AustroHungarian monarchy and living inside Yugoslav union. The geographical poisiton and the area has been described, flora and fauna, toponymy of Hardomilje and especially local language and its specifics. The history of the village has been presented through folklore, thehistorical garb, kitchen, wedding customs, popular games, culture andhabits, ancient commonbelieves and health conditions. The architecture of the ancient Hardomilje, the tools and requisitea that had been used are given special attention. The book also elaborates the lineages of Hardomilje, their origin that helps understand movings and migrations of the population of the area. The significant migrations of the people of Hardomilje began with the 20’th centuey to overseansmostly. The spiritual and religious life of the local people has been particularly taken care of since Catholicity
has always been the basis of the entire religious life throughout history. Therefore many customs related to certain church holidays and sacred objects have been discussed. At the time being there are 146 households in the village and the people anxsious for knowledge and new comprehensions associated long time ago the instructonal and educational western Christian culture which is the instructonal and educational western Christian culture which is the foundation of modern civilisation, Many biographies of the priests and nuns has been published as well as the biographies of some other important individuals from our village. The personality and works of the Franciscan, rev. Ljudevit Rupčić, the translator of the New Testament should be appreciated in a special way. This relatively small village has given more than a hundred higheducated people. The local people of Hardomilje are part of the Croatian national being and they have confirmed it at the times of ceisis whenever the existence of Croatian nation was threatened. There are 65 war and postwar victims from the village. During the defensive war for Croatia and survival ojf Croatie on their centuries old homes thad happened after the end of the SFRJ, more than hundred men from Hardomilje joined the HV and HVO troupes. Two of them have sacrificed their lives on the oltar oj their home country following so manyof those known and unknown heroes on their way towards the light, fighting succesfully for their own, independent, Croatian statehood. This book shows in detailes the way this village used to live, in order to make
