Beschreibung:Signatures: A-M⁸. - The "Imagines mortis" contains 53 woodcuts wholly or mostly derived from the designs generally supposed to be by Hans Holbein. Biblical texts appear above the woodcuts. The quatrains below the woodcuts are presumably translated from the French versions which have been attributed to Jean de Vauzelles or to Gilles Corrozot. The woodcuts after Holbein's designs, along with De Vauzelles' or Corrozot's verses, first published Lyons, 1538 as Simulachres & historiees faces de la mort. Cf. Mortimer. - VD 16 attributes whole item to Gilles Corrozet (as editor?), and notes Urbanus Rhegius as author of Medicina Animae, Caspar Huberinus as author of Paraclesis. - Cf. Mortimer, R. 16th cent. books, 284 & 285
Beschreibung:[192] pages (the last 2 pages blank) illustrations (woodcuts) 15 cm (8°)
