PASTORAL F UL Λ NI LIVELIHOOD IN CON TEMPORARY GHANA his book examines the lives and livelihoods of ABOUT THE AUTHOR the pastoral Fulani across the different cultural and agro-ecological zones of Ghana and the relationship they have developed with their agricultural neighbours as well as the state over the past four decades. In comparison with other ethnic groups in Ghana, the Fulani are recent migrants to Ghana. Their late-comer and migrant status and the fact that they place much more emphasis on animal production and husbandry makes them unique in terms of their culture and livelihood practices. The book also emphasizes the tact that there are different categories of pastoral Fulani in the country. While some of them have been living permanently in the country for several decades wilh several generations ol descendants who have become integrated into the local communities and economy, others are recent 01 seasonal migrants from neighbouring countries who only reside in the country temporarily and have little contact and exchanges with Steve Tonah is a Professor of the local population.
