Zusammenfassung:Of the three great visual artists who came to Brazil in the early 19th century, two are well known Rugendas and Debret but the third will only be really discovered now. The book Ender and Brazil brings together all of the artist's production during his visit to the country, in which he acted as a real travel correspondent for the Austrian court. With text by Julio Bandeira, presentation by Pedro Corrêa do Lago, introduction by Cornelia Reiter, from the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, and biography of Thomas Ender by Richard Wagner, former director of the Austrian institution. The volume also features unpublished oils, a technique that Ender rarely used. "But the big difference between Ender, Debret and Rugendas, and that's his particularity, is that no iconographic album was edited at the timeʺ, adds Bandeira. "He was like a photographer, an artist of the Habsburgs, registering the places they passed. As Debret and Rugendas published their books while still alive, they became very well known. Ender, no.ʺ With this release, Capivara completes the series of raisonné catalogs of the three most important traveling artists, after Debret no Brasil (2008, already in its sixth edition) and Rugendas e o Brasil (2010, with the third edition prepared for 2023).
