Zusammenfassung: | "Accounting for almost two thirds of the country's land-mass, Northern Canada is a vast region, host to rich natural resources and a diverse cultural heritage shared across Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents. In this book, Rebecca Schiff and Helle Møller analyse health and healthcare in Northern Canada from a perspective that acknowledges the unique strengths, resilience, and innovation of northerners, while also addressing the challenges aggravated by contemporary manifestations of colonialism. Old and new forms of colonial programs and policies continue to create health and healthcare disparities in the North, which has had a profound impact on northerners. Divided into three sections, Health and Healthcare in Northern Canada paints a broad picture of primary issues that northern peoples face. Several chapters are written by northerners and utilize case studies, quotes, photographs, and other materials to highlight voices and perspectives of people living in northern Canada. In order to maintain resilience, improve the positive outcomes of health determinants, and diminish negative stereotypes, we must ensure that northerners - and their cultures, values, strengths and leadership - are at the centre of the ongoing work to achieve social justice and health equity."-- |

Suicide Prevention A Sociocultural Approach to Understanding Suicide Among Inuit: Issues and Prevention Strategies Section III: Conclusions and New Directions -- Innovation, Collaboration, and Resilience 17. Introduction to Section III: Conclusions and New Directions to Embrace Collaboration, Resilience, and Innovation in Northern Health and Healthcare; 18. Youth Resilience Resilience among Indigenous Youth in Northern Canada "Accounting for almost two thirds of the country's land-mass, Northern Canada is a vast region, host to rich natural resources and a diverse cultural heritage shared across Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents. In order to maintain resilience, improve the positive outcomes of health determinants, and diminish negative stereotypes, we must ensure that northerners - and their cultures, values, strengths and leadership - are at the centre of the ongoing work to achieve social justice and health equity."-- Indigenes Volk (DE-588)4187207-1 gnd rswk-swf Medizinische Versorgung (DE-588)4038270-9 gnd rswk-swf Kanada Nord (DE-588)4334364-8 gnd rswk-swf Medical care / Canada, Northern Medicine / Canada, Northern Indigenous peoples / Health and hygiene / Canada, Northern Canada, Northern / Social conditions Delivery of Health Care Indigenous Canadians Health Status Disparities Healthcare Disparities Social Determinants of Health Canada Soins médicaux / Canada (Nord) Médecine / Canada (Nord) Autochtones / Santé et hygiène / Canada (Nord) Canada (Nord) / Conditions sociales Prestation de soins Déterminants sociaux de la santé Indigenous peoples / Health and hygiene Medical care Medicine Social conditions Northern Canada Aboriginal Canadians / Health Aboriginal Canadians / Health services Medizinische Versorgung (DE-588)4038270-9 s Indigenes Volk (DE-588)4187207-1 s Kanada Nord (DE-588)4334364-8 g DE-188 Schiff, Rebecca (DE-588)1311604197 edt Møller, Helle 1962- (DE-588)1252749589 edt Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB Schiff, Rebecca (Professor of public health) Health and health care in northern Canada Toronto ; Buffalo ; London : University of Toronto Press, 2021 978-1-4875-1461-7 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, PDF Schiff, Rebecca (Professor of public health) Health and health care in northern Canada Toronto ; Buffalo ; London : University of Toronto Press, 2021 978-1-4875-1460-0 |
