Zusammenfassung:A text that investigates the post mortem photography present in some sectors of Medellín in the late 19th and early 20h centuries. Broadly speaking, the photography of the dead belongs to a modern symbolic construction of death. To interpret its meaning in the context in which it was produced, it is essential to analyze it from a triple perspective: (1) the content of the photograph, (2) the photographer and contemporary aesthetic currents, and (3) the technical means of photography at that time and the appropriation of these images by relatives. The use of postmortem photography as a historical document is of great relevance for historians because it shows how certain funerary practices established in the past are no longer present in current societies, which may be due to the configuration of new conceptions about death.ʺ
