Zusammenfassung: | "This book is about the Dominican church in Antwerp (today St Paul's). It is structured around three works of art, made or procured by Peter Paul Rubens: the Fifteen Mysteries of the Rosary cycle (in situ), Caravaggio's Rosary Madonna (Vienna) and the Wrath of Christ high altarpiece (Lyon). Within the artist's lifetime, the church and monastery were completely rebuilt, creating one of the most spectacular sacred spaces in Northern Europe. The author reconceptualises early modern churches as theatres of political economy, advancing an original approach to cultural production in a time of war. Using methodologies at the cutting edge of the humanities, the place of St Paul's is restored to the crux of Antwerp's commercial, civic and religious life"-- |

Using methodologies at the cutting edge of the humanities, the place of St Paul's is restored to the crux of Antwerp's commercial, civic and religious life"-- Caravaggio, Michelangelo Merisi da 1571-1610 Rosenkranzmadonna (DE-588)1228102368 gnd rswk-swf Rubens, Peter Paul 1577-1640 (DE-588)11860354X gnd rswk-swf Dominikaner (DE-588)1008640-7 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1616-1620 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1617 gnd rswk-swf Rosenkranz Motiv (DE-588)4376782-5 gnd rswk-swf Auftraggeber (DE-588)4143425-0 gnd rswk-swf Religiöse Kunst (DE-588)4193793-4 gnd rswk-swf Malerei (DE-588)4037220-0 gnd rswk-swf Mariendarstellung (DE-588)4074563-6 gnd rswk-swf Sint-Pauluskerk Antwerpen (DE-588)4842143-1 gnd rswk-swf Niederlande (DE-588)4042203-3 gnd rswk-swf Rubens, Peter Paul / 1577-1640 Sint-Pauluskerk (Antwerp, Belgium) / History Dominicans / Art patronage Mysteries of the Rosary in art Art and society / Belgium / Antwerp / History / 17th century Architecture and society / Belgium / Antwerp / History / 17th century (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Rubens, Peter Paul 1577-1640 (DE-588)11860354X p Sint-Pauluskerk Antwerpen (DE-588)4842143-1 g Dominikaner (DE-588)1008640-7 b Auftraggeber (DE-588)4143425-0 s Religiöse Kunst (DE-588)4193793-4 s Geschichte 1616-1620 z DE-604 Caravaggio, Michelangelo Merisi da 1571-1610 Rosenkranzmadonna (DE-588)1228102368 u Niederlande (DE-588)4042203-3 g Malerei (DE-588)4037220-0 s Mariendarstellung (DE-588)4074563-6 s Rosenkranz Motiv (DE-588)4376782-5 s Geschichte 1617 z Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-90-04-27637-6 Brill's studies on art, art history and intellectual history volume 67 (DE-604)BV042551607 67 https://doi.org/10.1163/9789004276383 URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
