In the foreground is a Willys MB Jeep patrol of the 16th Constabulary Squadron (Separate), US Constabulary. The Constabulary sergeant is talking to a corporal from the British Royal Military Police. In the background is the iconic Brandenburg Gate, which became the symbol of the divided city after the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, however, in 1947 the gate was still open to traffic passing from the British sector to the Soviet sector. In the early years of the occupation, the US patrolled across all Allied sectors because of their greater manpower, but later they concentrated just on the American sector. (Artwork by Pablo Patricio Albornoz © Helion Company) The back cover shows a Stinson L-5 Sentinel of the US Constabulary, c.1946. The US Constabulary used these stable two-seater aircraft for patrols and photographic reconnaissance over the American Sector of Berlin.
