Zusammenfassung: | "This book is a biography and reception history of the Lithuanian-American archaeologist Marija Gimbutas (1921-1994). It presents the first transnational account of Gimbutas' life based on historical research, and an original examination of the impact of her ideas in various feminist contexts, both academic and popular. At the core of this book is a success story of an Eastern European woman who survived both Soviet and Nazi occupations of her homeland, lived as a displaced person in postwar Germany, and built her career and scholarly authority within the androcentric American academia. At the same time, it is also a story of a controversy, which followed Gimbutas' theory of Old Europe--a prehistoric civilization, characterized by peacefulness, egalitarianism, women's leadership, and the worship of the Great Goddess. First introduced in 1974, this theory inspired women's movements worldwide, but was harshly criticized by other archaeologists. This book examines the various intellectual contexts (feminist, nationalist, theoretical) in which Gimbutas' ideas were formed, received, and interpreted, as well as appropriated for different political goals. This timely study will appeal to scholars and students in the following fields: history of archaeology, prehistoric archaeology, gender studies, feminist studies, women's history, Baltic studies, and religion and spirituality" |

This timely study will appeal to scholars and students in the following fields: history of archaeology, prehistoric archaeology, gender studies, feminist studies, women's history, Baltic studies, and religion and spirituality" Gimbutas, Marija 1921-1994 (DE-588)119269821 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Große Göttin (DE-588)4205295-6 gnd rswk-swf Archäologie (DE-588)4002827-6 gnd rswk-swf Gimbutas, Marija / 1921-1994 Women archaeologists / Lithuania / Vilnius / Biography Women archaeologists / California / Los Angeles / Biography Archaeologists / Lithuania / Vilnius / Biography Archaeologists / California / Los Angeles / Biography Lithuanian Americans / California / Los Angeles / Biography Goddesses, Prehistoric / Europe Feminism Vilnius (Lithuania) / Biography Los Angeles (Calif.) / Biography Archaeologists Goddesses, Prehistoric Lithuanian Americans Women archaeologists California / Los Angeles Europe Lithuania / Vilnius Biographies (DE-588)4006804-3 Biografie gnd-content Gimbutas, Marija 1921-1994 (DE-588)119269821 p DE-604 Große Göttin (DE-588)4205295-6 s Archäologie (DE-588)4002827-6 s Geschichte z Äquivalent Druck-Ausgabe, Paperback 978-1-03-210490-4 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, ebk. 978-1-00-321559-2 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=034160597&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=034160597&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Register // Gemischte Register |
