Zusammenfassung: | In his book 21 Lessons for the 21st Century the historian Yuval Noah Harrari wrote that man had the possibility to conquer the world precisely because he could create fictional stories and believe in them. People created more and more complex stories about themselves that served and continue to serve, according to the professor of the University of Jerusalem, building unity, social harmony and gaining power. A narrative about past, in which memory fragmentation and victimisation play a large role, may be a temptation to instrumentalise the past. This is especially true in relation to the events of the twentieth century, when a series of bloody war conflicts occurred. As shown in the following post-conference volume, today the wars of the past (World War I and World War II, Indian-Pakistani war) and current conflicts (Russo-Ukrainian war, war in Sudan or Nagorno-Karabakh) are also a catalyst for the process of instrumentalisation. This process can be analysed both at the level of the evolution of the language of conflict, including the erosion of the values of democratic dialogue, and the use of specific means of commemorating the past (monuments, museums, the Internet) |

spelling | Different shades of the past history as an instrument of contemporary international conflicts edited by Mateusz Kamionka and Przemysław Łukasik Berlin ; Boston De Gruyter Oldenbourg [2023] © 2023 1 Online-Ressource (VI, 211 Seiten) Illustration, Karten txt rdacontent c rdamedia cr rdacarrier In his book 21 Lessons for the 21st Century the historian Yuval Noah Harrari wrote that man had the possibility to conquer the world precisely because he could create fictional stories and believe in them. This process can be analysed both at the level of the evolution of the language of conflict, including the erosion of the values of democratic dialogue, and the use of specific means of commemorating the past (monuments, museums, the Internet) Wikipedia (DE-588)7545251-0 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1900-2021 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1917- gnd rswk-swf Erinnerungspolitik Geschichtsinstrumentalisierung Internationale Konfliktforschung Vergangenheitsbewältigung HISTORY / Modern / General bisacsh Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 gnd rswk-swf Russisch-Ukrainischer Krieg (DE-588)106969780X gnd rswk-swf Geschichtspolitik (DE-588)1041864515 gnd rswk-swf Krieg (DE-588)4033114-3 gnd rswk-swf Internationaler Konflikt (DE-588)4162071-9 gnd rswk-swf Konflikt (DE-588)4032081-9 gnd rswk-swf Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 02.11.2021 Krakau gnd-content Geschichtspolitik (DE-588)1041864515 s Kollektives Gedächtnis (DE-588)4200793-8 s Internationaler Konflikt (DE-588)4162071-9 s Krieg (DE-588)4033114-3 s DE-604 Geschichte 1900-2021 z Osteuropa (DE-588)4075739-0 g Konflikt (DE-588)4032081-9 s Geschichte 1917- z Russisch-Ukrainischer Krieg (DE-588)106969780X s Wikipedia (DE-588)7545251-0 u Kamionka, Mateusz (DE-588)1257837842 edt Łukasik, Przemysław (DE-588)113830851X edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783111000251 https://doi.org/10.1515/9783111000596 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
