Zusammenfassung:This book constitutes an advance in the study of painting produced in various regions of western and northwestern Mexico during the period of Hispanic administration. Painting had been relegated by most specialists, who put interest and attention in a very special way in architecture. They coexisted, and in some places still do, paintings made by the sought-after brushes of central Mexico, with the local painters whose biographies and works are just beginning to be realized. Some Indian chiefs, mulattos and castes others, make up a group that, without the strict supervision of a guild, and with irregular quality in their works, gave satisfaction to a growing clientele. The works collected include analysis of concrete cases, historiographical reviews on specific sites and studies on the materiality and technology of the works.
