Zusammenfassung: | "The Pacific Coast of the Americas linked Pre-Columbian complex societies from Mexico to Peru, facilitating exploration, communication, and transportation in a way that terrestrial routes could not match. Yet West Mexico, the Isthmo-Colombian Area, and Ecuador, with their great stretches of coastline, were marginalized by the definition of the Mesoamerican and Andean culture areas in the 1940s. Waves of Influence seeks to renew the inquiry into Pacific coastal contacts and bring fresh attention to connections between regions often seen as isolated from one another. This volume reassesses the evidence for Pre-Columbian maritime contacts along the Pacific Coast, from western Mexico to northwestern South America. The authors draw upon recent models of globalization, technological style, and ritual commensality alongside methods such as computer simulation, iconographic analysis, skeletal studies, and operational chains. No single model can characterize the coastal network over 4,000 km of coastline and over 4,000 years of interaction, and authors present individual case studies to demonstrate how each region participated in its own distinct networks. Essays address the difficulty of maritime movement, the transfer of crops, technology, and knowledge, the identification of different modalities of contact, and the detection of important nodes and social actors within the coastal network"-- |

Understanding emerging connections in the Pre-Columbian Americas : communities and networks of practice / Rosemary A. Joyce "The Pacific Coast of the Americas linked Pre-Columbian complex societies from Mexico to Peru, facilitating exploration, communication, and transportation in a way that terrestrial routes could not match. Essays address the difficulty of maritime movement, the transfer of crops, technology, and knowledge, the identification of different modalities of contact, and the detection of important nodes and social actors within the coastal network"-- Präkolumbische Zeit (DE-588)4046987-6 gnd rswk-swf Handel (DE-588)4023222-0 gnd rswk-swf Schifffahrtsweg (DE-588)4179571-4 gnd rswk-swf Austausch (DE-588)4308159-9 gnd rswk-swf Pazifischer Ozean (DE-588)4044981-6 gnd rswk-swf Südamerika Nordwest (DE-588)4408751-2 gnd rswk-swf Zentralamerika (DE-588)4079486-6 gnd rswk-swf Mexiko (DE-588)4039058-5 gnd rswk-swf Indians of Mexico / Commerce / History / To 1500 / Congresses Indians of Central America / Commerce / History / To 1500 / Congresses Indians of South America / Commerce / History / To 1500 / Congresses Pacific Coast (Mexico) / Commerce / Pacific Coast (South America) / History / To 1500 / Congresses Pacific Coast (Central America) / Commerce / Pacific Coast (South America) / History / To 1500 / Congresses Pacific Coast (South America) / Commerce / Mexico / Pacific Coast / History / To 1500 / Congresses Pacific Coast (South America) / Commerce / Pacific Coast (Central America) / History / To 1500 / Congresses Indians of Mexico / Antiquities Indians of Central America / Antiquities Indians of South America / Antiquities Indiens d'Amérique / Mexique / Antiquités Indiens d'Amérique / Amérique du Sud / Antiquités Commerce Indians of Central America / Commerce Indians of Mexico / Commerce Indians of South America / Commerce Central America / Pacific Coast Mexico / Pacific Coast South America / Pacific Coast To 1500 Conference papers and proceedings History (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection 11.10.2019-12.10.2019 Washington, D.C. gnd-content Mexiko (DE-588)4039058-5 g Zentralamerika (DE-588)4079486-6 g Südamerika Nordwest (DE-588)4408751-2 g Präkolumbische Zeit (DE-588)4046987-6 s Pazifischer Ozean (DE-588)4044981-6 g Schifffahrtsweg (DE-588)4179571-4 s Austausch (DE-588)4308159-9 s Handel (DE-588)4023222-0 s DE-604 Beekman, Christopher Stockard (DE-588)1056651709 edt McEwan, Colin 1951-2020 (DE-588)1057499099 edt Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection (DE-588)1025980-6 his |
