SUMMARY The recent literature (Letrat e fundif) is the central chapter of the present book of literary criticism, Stilografla [Stylography], whose subtle goal is to produce a panorama of Albanian literature of the beginning of the 21st century. The conclusion of the 20th century coincided with a drama in the Albanian world which upended the political system and the set of human values, paving the way for freedom of action and freedom of thought. The national and creative freedom revived the internal communication amongst Albanians themselves as a re-acquaintance and external communication as recognition, spurring a cacophony of voices: for continuity or for subversion. It seems that the Albanian literature, as the richest creative trea sure of this nation, has yet again, this time around, had the wisdom to embrace continuity and change, to explore new values. The difficult undertaking of a panorama of Albanian literature at the beginning of the new century, of the first two decades, that is, tries to articulate this phenomenon. The issues at hand are complex because we are dealing with the literary output of at least three generations of writers writing and publishing at the same time. And writers, naturally enough, produce works in different literary genres. The best solution transpired to be the treatment of this vibrant, evolving, literature through literary genres. The literary critical treatment, which requires the concurrence of the substance with the method, aims at interpretation, characterization and evaluation, weighing the literariness, which leads to the
literary system; then it highlights the given fact that the Albanian literary heritage is different from genre to genre and aims at attaining the goal of ascertaining the value of the work in the relevant genre that best represents the writer in question. Lack of prior literary study of this
394 Sabri Hamiti literature, as well as the often contradictory singular treatment of it thereof, without impacting the general system, propels the critical writing here even more strongly towards factography, stylography, and ideography. In the Poligraphy of Fiction [Poligrafìa e prozës] the following authors stand out, as authors, respectively, of the ego-novel: Agron Tufa, Eqrem Basha, Mehmet Kraja, Zejnullah Rrahmani, Ismail Kadare; of urban fiction: Ornela Vorpsi, Mehmet Kraja, Musa Ramadani, Anton Pashku; of documentary fiction: Father Zef Pllumi. The Enigma ofPoetry [Enigma e poezise] features the following poets: Romeo Çollaku, Luljeta Lleshanaku, Avdullah Konushevci, Mimoza Ahmeti, Arben Idrizi, Agron Tufa, and Eqrem Basha. The Challenges of Criticism [Sprovat e kritikes] features the following critics: Ali Aliu, Ali Xhiku, Floresha Dado, Muhamet Hamiti, Kujtim Rrahmani, Kujtim Shala, Persida Asllani, Dhurata Shehri, Nysret Krasniqi, and Ibrahim Rugova. In Drama Acts [Aktet dramatike] the following playwrights stand out: Teki Dërvishi, Jeton Neziraj, Stefan Çapaliku, Jonila GodoIe, and Doruntina Basha. In this process of evolution, current Albanian literature has been torn between the legacy of authenticity and the fervor of open commu nication with time and the world. Poetry goes through the stages of development from pathos to reaction/response, transforming the narrative, elliptical, discourse into a crowning of the image with the paradox. Fiction sways gently between the form of poetic prose of ego-narrative towards urban and intellectual pros, resulting in
the documentary prose becoming the dominant mode; a phenomenon thematically associated with the recent past of the region, which tumbles onto large dimensions of humanity. Drama is in the adven turous trials of examining national events as epic relics, grappling with social and individual causes, to move formally from small (simple) forms to dilemmas of solutions with syncretization of disco urse, to ultimately restore the abandoned unify). Simplistic criticism, aware of the limited previous knowledge, is obsessed with pursuit of the system both at the theoretical and the historiographical levels of Albanian literature in a more universal communication; and, at the
Stilografìa 395 same time, casting aside first (revealing) reading of the text, as the pleasure of reading. The second part of the book, The Calendar [Kalendari], which is a sort of a replica of the first part, laid down in the mode of a literary calendar, raises the issue: what does the past say to the present, in view of the literary heritage, which has already attained the status of a classic? The re-dimensioning of the epic works of Gjergj Fishta and the lyric poetry of Ndre Mjedja, of the encyclopedic Midhat Frashëri, even in the form of a registry, restores the Albanian literary consciousness for internal self-regulation of the fundamental values of the bond of national literature with the Albanian mother tongue, for the potential of substance and its handling. This issue becomes of crucial importance to understand the depths of commu nication of Albanian literature with other literatures, taking stock of the cultural history and the Albanian literary history with their often contradictory dramas, in which outstanding writers, as creative artists, have suffered badly as civic beings, furthermore as national idealists. Writers have been killed in this part of the world for their literature and for their ideas; masterpieces have been liquidated based on ideas of executions by dictatorial authority. Human consciousness professes that lessons must be learnt from suffering/setbacks, while the human dimension of freedom now warrants that the cultural totality of the Albanian literary edifice is accomplished only with the publication of literary manuscripts of all times,
unexpurgated, and annotated historiographically, so as to make the system complete. The middle brackets with three points in the middle [...] is a cunning censorship, which leaves the Albanian literary edifice incomplete, though it is, to this day, the nation s greatest cultu ral monument. Last but not least, the concluding part of the book, the Breviary [Breviari}, of a summary character, unfolds the characteristics of literary Albanianism, from the beginning until now, emphasizing especially the phenomena of this literature that are first authentic and only then general, including themes, ideas and the discourses of this literature, set in time or with their timeless transitions: Literary formations, Literature in dialects, Literature in other languages, Literature as such / Literature as a supplement, Literary Heroics,
396 Sabri Hamiti Literary sources, Home and the World, Dirge / Elegy, Palimpsest, Literary Pseudonym. The Breviary, highlighting a calendar of Albanian works and authors, as evidence, recalls the invitation for the retrospective and prospective readings of Albanian literature, from each generation of readers who are in pursuit of knowledge on the history, life and culture of their nation. SUMMARY The recent literature (Letrat e fundif) is the central chapter of the present book of literary criticism, Stilografla [Stylography], whose subtle goal is to produce a panorama of Albanian literature of the beginning of the 21st century. The conclusion of the 20th century coincided with a drama in the Albanian world which upended the political system and the set of human values, paving the way for freedom of action and freedom of thought. The national and creative freedom revived the internal communication amongst Albanians themselves as a re-acquaintance and external communication as recognition, spurring a cacophony of voices: for continuity or for subversion. It seems that the Albanian literature, as the richest creative trea sure of this nation, has yet again, this time around, had the wisdom to embrace continuity and change, to explore new values. The difficult undertaking of a panorama of Albanian literature at the beginning of the new century, of the first two decades, that is, tries to articulate this phenomenon. The issues at hand are complex because we are dealing with the literary output of at least three generations of writers writing and publishing at the same time. And writers, naturally enough, produce works in different literary genres. The best solution transpired to be the treatment of this vibrant, evolving, literature through literary genres. The literary critical treatment, which requires the concurrence of the substance with the method, aims at interpretation, characterization and evaluation, weighing the literariness, which leads to the
literary system; then it highlights the given fact that the Albanian literary heritage is different from genre to genre and aims at attaining the goal of ascertaining the value of the work in the relevant genre that best represents the writer in question. Lack of prior literary study of this
394 Sabri Hamiti literature, as well as the often contradictory singular treatment of it thereof, without impacting the general system, propels the critical writing here even more strongly towards factography, stylography, and ideography. The Enigma ofPoetry [Enigma e poezise] features the following poets: Romeo Çollaku, Luljeta Lleshanaku, Avdullah Konushevci, Mimoza Ahmeti, Arben Idrizi, Agron Tufa, and Eqrem Basha. The Challenges of Criticism [Sprovat e kritikes] features the following critics: Ali Aliu, Ali Xhiku, Floresha Dado, Muhamet Hamiti, Kujtim Rrahmani, Kujtim Shala, Persida Asllani, Dhurata Shehri, Nysret Krasniqi, and Ibrahim Rugova. In Drama Acts [Aktet dramatike] the following playwrights stand out: Teki Dërvishi, Jeton Neziraj, Stefan Çapaliku, Jonila GodoIe, and Doruntina Basha. In this process of evolution, current Albanian literature has been torn between the legacy of authenticity and the fervor of open commu nication with time and the world. Poetry goes through the stages of development from pathos to reaction/response, transforming the narrative, elliptical, discourse into a crowning of the image with the paradox. Fiction sways gently between the form of poetic prose of ego-narrative towards urban and intellectual pros, resulting in
the documentary prose becoming the dominant mode; a phenomenon thematically associated with the recent past of the region, which tumbles onto large dimensions of humanity. Drama is in the adven turous trials of examining national events as epic relics, grappling with social and individual causes, to move formally from small (simple) forms to dilemmas of solutions with syncretization of disco urse, to ultimately restore the abandoned unify). Simplistic criticism, aware of the limited previous knowledge, is obsessed with pursuit of the system both at the theoretical and the historiographical levels of Albanian literature in a more universal communication; and, at the
Stilografìa 395 same time, casting aside first (revealing) reading of the text, as the pleasure of reading. The second part of the book, The Calendar [Kalendari], which is a sort of a replica of the first part, laid down in the mode of a literary calendar, raises the issue: what does the past say to the present, in view of the literary heritage, which has already attained the status of a classic? The re-dimensioning of the epic works of Gjergj Fishta and the lyric poetry of Ndre Mjedja, of the encyclopedic Midhat Frashëri, even in the form of a registry, restores the Albanian literary consciousness for internal self-regulation of the fundamental values of the bond of national literature with the Albanian mother tongue, for the potential of substance and its handling. This issue becomes of crucial importance to understand the depths of commu nication of Albanian literature with other literatures, taking stock of the cultural history and the Albanian literary history with their often contradictory dramas, in which outstanding writers, as creative artists, have suffered badly as civic beings, furthermore as national idealists. Writers have been killed in this part of the world for their literature and for their ideas; masterpieces have been liquidated based on ideas of executions by dictatorial authority. Human consciousness professes that lessons must be learnt from suffering/setbacks, while the human dimension of freedom now warrants that the cultural totality of the Albanian literary edifice is accomplished only with the publication of literary manuscripts of all times,
unexpurgated, and annotated historiographically, so as to make the system complete. The middle brackets with three points in the middle [.] is a cunning censorship, which leaves the Albanian literary edifice incomplete, though it is, to this day, the nation's greatest cultu ral monument. Last but not least, the concluding part of the book, the Breviary [Breviari}, of a summary character, unfolds the characteristics of literary Albanianism, from the beginning until now, emphasizing especially the phenomena of this literature that are first authentic and only then general, including themes, ideas and the discourses of this literature, set in time or with their timeless transitions: Literary formations, Literature in dialects, Literature in other languages, Literature as such / Literature as a supplement, Literary Heroics,

The Breviary, highlighting a calendar of Albanian works and authors, as evidence, recalls the invitation for the retrospective and prospective readings of Albanian literature, from each generation of readers who are in pursuit of knowledge on the history, life and culture of their nation.
