Zusammenfassung: | Obedience. Scipione Borghese and the Cardinal Nephew as Servant -- Prudence. Paluzzo Altieri and the Cardinal Nephew as Padrone -- Pietas. Francesco Barberini and the Ex-Cardinal Nephew as Model -- Fidelity. Paluzzo Altieri and the Ex-Cardinal Nephew as Intimo -- Order. Flavio Chigi and the Ex-Cardinal Nephew as Collector. "Drawing on rich archival research and focusing on works by leading artists including Guido Reni and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Karen J. Lloyd demonstrates that cardinal nephews in seventeenth-century Rome - those nephews who were raised to the cardinalate as princes of the Church - used the arts to cultivate more than splendid social status. Through politically savvy frescos and emotionally evocative displays of paintings, sculpture, and curiosities, cardinal nephews aimed to define nepotism as good Catholic rule. Their commissions took advantage of their unique position close to the pope, embedding the defense of their role into the physical fabric of authority, from the storied vaults of the Vatican Palace to the sensuous garden villas that fused business and pleasure in the Eternal City. This book uncovers how cardinal nephews crafted a seductively potent dialogue on the nature of power, fueling the development of innovative visual forms that championed themselves as the indispensable heart of papal politics. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, early modern studies, religious history, and political history"-- |

The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, early modern studies, religious history, and political history"--</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" Lloyd New York ; London Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group 2023 xiv, 267 Seiten Illustrationen txt rdacontent n rdamedia nc rdacarrier Visual culture in early modernity Includes bibliographical references and index Obedience. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, early modern studies, religious history, and political history"-- Altieri, Paluzzo 1623-1698 (DE-588)118955527 gnd rswk-swf Barberini, Francesco 1597-1679 (DE-588)100013376 gnd rswk-swf Chigi, Flavio 1631-1693 (DE-588)118960350 gnd rswk-swf Borghese, Scipione 1577-1633 (DE-588)118661809 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1600-1700 gnd rswk-swf Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 gnd rswk-swf Nepotismus (DE-588)4220631-5 gnd rswk-swf Auftraggeber (DE-588)4143425-0 gnd rswk-swf Kunstförderung (DE-588)4033639-6 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf Mäzenatentum (DE-588)4074442-5 gnd rswk-swf Rom (DE-588)4050471-2 gnd rswk-swf Kirchenstaat (DE-588)4114201-9 gnd rswk-swf Art patronage / Italy / Rome / History / 17th century Nepotism / Italy / Rome / History / 17th century Cardinals / Italy / Rome / History / 17th century Popes / Family relationships Papacy / History / 1566-1799 Kirchenstaat (DE-588)4114201-9 g Nepotismus (DE-588)4220631-5 s Geschichte 1600-1700 z DE-604 Rom (DE-588)4050471-2 g Kunstförderung (DE-588)4033639-6 s Mäzenatentum (DE-588)4074442-5 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Politik (DE-588)4046514-7 s Borghese, Scipione 1577-1633 (DE-588)118661809 p Altieri, Paluzzo 1623-1698 (DE-588)118955527 p Barberini, Francesco 1597-1679 (DE-588)100013376 p Chigi, Flavio 1631-1693 (DE-588)118960350 p Auftraggeber (DE-588)4143425-0 s Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe 978-1-003-22238-5 V:DE-604 application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033968479&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
