Zusammenfassung: | Publishing for children between 1930 and 1960 has been denigrated as a relatively fallow period for creativity and quality, certainly in comparison with the golden ages' of children's literature that preceded and succeeded it. This book questions this perception by using archival evidence to argue that the work of what was predominantly a female group of editors, illustrators, authors and librarians (collectively referred to as bookwomen) resulted in many titles which are still considered as classics' today. The bookwomen reframed ideas about how children's publishing should be approached and valued and, in doing so, laid the foundations for a subsequent generation of children's authors and publishers who were to achieve far greater prominence. The key to the success of the bookwomen was their willingness to experiment, the strength of their relationships and their comprehensive understanding of the book production process. By focusing on a selection of women working across all aspects of the book production process, this book demonstrates that, both individually and collectively, women capitalised on their position as other' to the existing male institutions |

The key to the success of the bookwomen was their willingness to experiment, the strength of their relationships and their comprehensive understanding of the book production process. By focusing on a selection of women working across all aspects of the book production process, this book demonstrates that, both individually and collectively, women capitalised on their position as other' to the existing male institutions Geschichte 1930-1960 gnd rswk-swf Weibliche Buchsachverständige (DE-588)7548824-3 gnd rswk-swf Kinderliteratur (DE-588)4073409-2 gnd rswk-swf Kinderbuchverlag (DE-588)4367537-2 gnd rswk-swf Buchproduktion (DE-588)4146827-2 gnd rswk-swf Feministische Literaturwissenschaft (DE-588)1042242879 gnd rswk-swf Kinderbibliothek (DE-588)4130812-8 gnd rswk-swf Bibliothekarin (DE-588)4145264-1 gnd rswk-swf Autorin (DE-588)4258697-5 gnd rswk-swf Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 gnd rswk-swf Illustratorin (DE-588)4454346-3 gnd rswk-swf Lektorin Verlag (DE-588)4416257-1 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf Children's literature / 20th century / History and criticism Children's literature / Publishing / History / 20th century Women authors Englisch (DE-588)4014777-0 s USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g Kinderliteratur (DE-588)4073409-2 s Geschichte 1930-1960 z DE-604 Buchproduktion (DE-588)4146827-2 s Kinderbuchverlag (DE-588)4367537-2 s Kinderbibliothek (DE-588)4130812-8 s Weibliche Buchsachverständige (DE-588)7548824-3 s Autorin (DE-588)4258697-5 s Illustratorin (DE-588)4454346-3 s Lektorin Verlag (DE-588)4416257-1 s Bibliothekarin (DE-588)4145264-1 s Feministische Literaturwissenschaft (DE-588)1042242879 s Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, ebk. 978-1-00-330687-0 |
