Zusammenfassung: | Searching for a job has been an everyday affair in both modern and past societies, and employment a concern for both individuals and institutions. The case studies in this volume investigate job search and placement practices in European countries, Australia, and India in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The contributors explore how looking for work becomes a means by which participants (individuals, placement agents, trade unions, municipalities, administrations, state authorities, and schools) articulated specific interests, perspectives, and agendas. Taking an exploratory approach, the chapters illustrate different approaches to the history of employment and job searching, ranging from organizational and regulatory histories to the analysis of practices and autobiographical accounts. In the process, they uncover the interrelations of search practices and attempts to arrange placement services |

Nov 2022) Searching for a job has been an everyday affair in both modern and past societies, and employment a concern for both individuals and institutions. In the process, they uncover the interrelations of search practices and attempts to arrange placement services In English HISTORY / Social History bisacsh Employment agencies History 19th century Employment agencies History 20th century Labor History 19th century Labor History 20th century Buchner, Thomas 1974- Sonstige (DE-588)132825473 oth Mejstrik, Alexander 1961- Sonstige (DE-588)130163368 oth Edling, Nils Sonstige oth Knotter, Ad Sonstige oth Lourens, Piet Sonstige oth Lucassen, Jan Sonstige oth Mansfield, Malcolm Sonstige oth Meskill, David Sonstige oth Mishra, Amit Kumar Sonstige oth O'Donnell, Anthony Sonstige oth Pawlowsky, Verena Sonstige oth Richter, Jessica Sonstige oth Vana, Irina Sonstige oth Wendelin, Harald Sonstige oth Whiteside, Noel Sonstige oth International Studies in Social History 26 (DE-604)BV045335032 26 https://doi.org/10.1515/9781782385516?locatt=mode:legacy Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
