Zusammenfassung: | This volume examines aspects of the German colonial consciousness following the end of empire in 1918. Entirely stripped of colonial possessions under the Treaty of Versailles, Germany, unlike other European nations, was faced with the end of empire well before the end of the European colonial project. This loss left behind a complex legacy that permeated the political, literary and cultural discourses of the postwar period. By scrutinising the resonances between literary intervention and public discourses, and between their respective agendas and methods, the contributors tease out the intricacies of the colonial debate in Weimar Germany. Weimar revanchism is unveiled as an attempt to salve a humiliated national ego and refashion Germany as a model agent of the 'civilising mission' in colonial space against the backdrop of military defeat, political collapse and foreign occupation. The contributions also highlight the framing of Eastern European and Near Eastern space as colonial, the complex mediality of colonial debate and the lasting political and literary legacy of "Weimar Colonialism" |

Auflage]. - Online resource; title from title screen (viewed August 18, 2022) This volume examines aspects of the German colonial consciousness following the end of empire in 1918. The contributions also highlight the framing of Eastern European and Near Eastern space as colonial, the complex mediality of colonial debate and the lasting political and literary legacy of "Weimar Colonialism" Geschichte 1918-1933 gnd rswk-swf Literatur Weimarer Republik German Interwar Literature Weimar Postcolonialism Colonial Imagination Poland Photomontage Colonial Education Grimm Hans Kolonialismus (DE-588)4073624-6 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)1071861417 Konferenzschrift 2012 Maynooth gnd-content Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Kolonialismus (DE-588)4073624-6 s Geschichte 1918-1933 z DE-604 Krobb, Florian edt Martin, Elaine edt Göttsche, Dirk Sonstige oth Hermes, Stefan Sonstige oth Hoesen, Brett M. van Sonstige oth Käemper, Heidrun Sonstige oth Kopp, Kristin Sonstige oth Onken, Hinnerk Sonstige oth Repussard, Catherine Sonstige oth Verber, Jason Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 9783849810498 https://elibrary.utb.de/doi/book/10.46479/9783849814878 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
