Zusammenfassung: | "Over the course of the nineteenth century Siberia developed a fearsome reputation as a place of exile, often imagined as a vast penal colony and seen as a symbol of the iniquities of autocratic and totalitarian Tsarist rule. This book examines how Siberia's reputation came about and discusses the effects of this reputation in turning opinion, especially in Western countries, against the Tsarist regime and in giving rise to considerable sympathy for Russian radicals and revolutionaries. It considers the writings and propaganda of a large number of different émigré groups, explores American and British journalists' investigations and exposé press articles and charts the rise of the idea of Russian political prisoners as revolutionary and reformist heroes. Overall, the book demonstrates how important representations of Siberian exile were in shaping Western responses to the Russian Revolution"-- |

Overall, the book demonstrates how important representations of Siberian exile were in shaping Western responses to the Russian Revolution"-- Geschichte 1825-1917 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte 1880-1917 gnd rswk-swf Russlandbild (DE-588)4051053-0 gnd rswk-swf Exil (DE-588)4015959-0 gnd rswk-swf Revolution Motiv (DE-588)4177942-3 gnd rswk-swf Revolutionäre Bewegung (DE-588)4177944-7 gnd rswk-swf Sibirien Motiv (DE-588)4301654-6 gnd rswk-swf Exil Motiv (DE-588)4139659-5 gnd rswk-swf Sibirien (DE-588)4054780-2 gnd rswk-swf Westliche Welt (DE-588)4079237-7 gnd rswk-swf Soviet Union / History / Revolution, 1917-1921 / Foreign public opinion Russia / History / Revolution, 1905-1907 / Foreign public opinion Revolutionaries / Russia (Federation) / Siberia Political prisoners / Russia (Federation) / Siberia Exiles / Russia (Federation) / Siberia Exiles' writings, Russian / History and criticism Political prisoners' writings, Russian / History and criticism Siberia (Russia) / Politics and government URSS / Histoire / 1917-1921 (Révolution) / Opinion publique étrangère Russie / Histoire / 1905-1907 (Révolution) / Opinion publique étrangère Révolutionnaires / Russie / Sibérie Prisonniers politiques / Russie / Sibérie Littérature de l'exil russe / Histoire et critique Exiles Exiles' writings, Russian Political prisoners Political prisoners' writings, Russian Politics and government Public opinion Revolutionaries Russia Russia (Federation) / Siberia Soviet Union 1905-1921 Criticism, interpretation, etc History Sibirien (DE-588)4054780-2 g Exil (DE-588)4015959-0 s Revolutionäre Bewegung (DE-588)4177944-7 s Geschichte 1825-1917 z DE-604 Westliche Welt (DE-588)4079237-7 g Russlandbild (DE-588)4051053-0 s Sibirien Motiv (DE-588)4301654-6 s Exil Motiv (DE-588)4139659-5 s Revolution Motiv (DE-588)4177942-3 s Geschichte 1880-1917 z Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-0-367-22480-6 Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-1-03-217123-4 BASEES/Routledge series on Russian and East European studies 144 (DE-604)BV041152377 144 https://www.doi.org/10.4324/9780429275098 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
