Zusammenfassung: | "During the darkest days of the Holocaust, Europe's Jews faced annihilation. In faraway Melbourne, immigrants Leo and Mina Fink rallied to rescue the survivors. It was a massive task. Undaunted, they battled bureaucrats, public opinion and at times the Minister for Immigration Arthur Calwell. Marshalling the might of local and international agencies, they spearheaded the urgent relief and resettlement of thousands of displaced Holocaust survivors desperate to leave a shattered Europe, a graveyard continent of dust and ashes. By 1954, 17,000 survivors called Australia home. Following the chaos of war, Leo and Mina remained at the forefront of communal life. They initiated expansive welfare programs, while personally helping countless individuals. Mina's devotion to a group of war orphans known as the 'Buchenwald boys' was testament to her and Leo's relentless efforts to improve the lives of others. But survival of the Jewish world remained paramount. Leo pioneered the first Australian business venture in Israel, in a bid to underpin the young nation's fragile economy. Mina's global outreach and humanitarian vision transformed the National Council of Jewish Women into a proactive force with a clear feminist agenda. When 'Holocaust denial' launched its assault on historical truth and memory, Mina championed the establishment of Melbourne's Holocaust Museum, pushing its mandate beyond remembrance to education, to combat all forms of racism.Leo and Mina Fink's remarkable story is skilfully told through the turbulent, rapidly changing times in which they lived. This is a compelling account of how and why two individuals set out to change the world for the greater good"--Publisher's description |

This is a compelling account of how and why two individuals set out to change the world for the greater good"--Publisher's description Fink, Leo 1901-1972 (DE-588)1270752006 gnd rswk-swf Fink, Mina 1913-1990 (DE-588)1270752960 gnd rswk-swf Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Hilfsaktion (DE-588)4736718-0 gnd rswk-swf Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 gnd rswk-swf Flüchtling (DE-588)4017604-6 gnd rswk-swf Judenvernichtung (DE-588)4073091-8 gnd rswk-swf Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 gnd rswk-swf Überlebender (DE-588)4136796-0 gnd rswk-swf Australien (DE-588)4003900-6 gnd rswk-swf Melbourne (DE-588)4038526-7 gnd rswk-swf Fink, Leo / (Itzhak Leib) / 1901-1972 Fink, Mina / (Miriam) / 1913-1990 Married people / Australia / Victoria / Biography Immigrants / Australia / Victoria / Biography Jewish businesspeople / Australia / Victoria / Biography Jewish philanthropists / Australia / Victoria / Biography Holocaust survivors / Services for / Australia / History Holocaust survivors' families / Services for / Australia / History World War, 1939-1945 / Jews / Rescue Australia / Emigration and immigration Couples mariés / Australie / Victoria / Biographies Guerre mondiale, 1939-1945 / Juifs / Sauvetage Australie / Émigration et immigration Gens d'affaires juifs / Australie / Victoria / Biographies Philanthropes juifs / Australie / Victoria / Biographies Survivants de l'Holocauste / Services / Australie / Histoire Familles des survivants de l'Holocauste / Services / Australie / Histoire Emigration and immigration Holocaust survivors / Services for Immigrants Jewish businesspeople Jewish philanthropists Married people Australia Victoria Biography Biographies History (DE-588)4006804-3 Biografie gnd-content Fink, Leo 1901-1972 (DE-588)1270752006 p Fink, Mina 1913-1990 (DE-588)1270752960 p DE-604 Melbourne (DE-588)4038526-7 g Juden (DE-588)4028808-0 s Flüchtling (DE-588)4017604-6 s Einwanderung (DE-588)4013960-8 s Hilfsaktion (DE-588)4736718-0 s Geschichte z Australien (DE-588)4003900-6 g Judenvernichtung (DE-588)4073091-8 s Überlebender (DE-588)4136796-0 s Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, pdf 978-1-922464-87-3 Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, epub 978-1-922464-88-0 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033828582&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
