Beschreibung:A specialty dish of Sonora, Mexico, the chimichanga is a deep-fried burrito with an interesting tale. According to legend, a waitress in a Mexican restaurant had left a leftover burrito sitting on the counter, and Flin, the owner and cook, accidentally dropped it into the deep fryer. She was about to say "¡Ay, chingado!" (a curse word), but her young nieces and nephews were present, so she censored herself and said "¡Ay, chi... michanga!" instead. When she sampled the result of her mistake, she liked it so much she decided to name it after her outburst and put it on the menu.Inspired by this story, Deep-Fried Burrito also plays with language and expression. Initially, the vocalist is unable to utter complete words or complete musical ideas, but as the piece progresses, he gains confidence in his singing abilities and the ability to express himself, and is finally able communicate the name and ingredients of this Mexican dish.Musically, the piece is also inspired by Norteño, a style of music that originated in the same region of Northern Mexico, exploding in popularity in the 1950s. Its insistent and regular on--off-beat rhythm, flowing lyrical melodies and simple harmonic support find their way into this short piece as building blocks for musical composition
