Zusammenfassung: | "'Non-finiteness' is a phenomenon that occurs in most natural languages, whereby a verb is not inflected by grammatical tense, and does not possess the grammatical features of aspect, mood or voice. Various theories have been developed to explain their distribution and their role in clause structure, but many instances of non-finiteness remain unaccounted for. Taking a functional approach, this study proposes a 'process relation framework' to explain the more complex, previously unaccounted for, instances of non-finiteness in clause structure. It applies the framework comparatively to non-finiteness in English and Chinese, showing how it can be applied across typologically distinct languages. Drawing on corpus-based instances and observations, it introduces numerous thought-provoking cases, in which constructional (or combining) types and the predictability of non-finiteness co-occur. In terms of application, non-finiteness is decisive in categorising language types, and it is critical in processing natural languages, text segmentation and annotation in particular"-- |

In terms of application, non-finiteness is decisive in categorising language types, and it is critical in processing natural languages, text segmentation and annotation in particular"--</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Englisch</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4014777-0</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Systemische Grammatik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4184276-5</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Chinesisch</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4113214-2</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Funktionalismus</subfield><subfield code="g">Linguistik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4125129-5</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1="0" ind2="7"><subfield code="a">Infinite Verbform</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4161655-8</subfield><subfield code="2">gnd</subfield><subfield code="9">rswk-swf</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Finiteness (Linguistics)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grammar, Comparative and general / Verb</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Grammar, Comparative and general / Clauses</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Functionalism (Linguistics)</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Systemic grammar</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">English language / Grammar, Comparative / Chinese</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Chinese language / Grammar, Comparative / English</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="653" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES / General</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Systemische Grammatik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4184276-5</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="1"><subfield code="a">Funktionalismus</subfield><subfield code="g">Linguistik</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4125129-5</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="2"><subfield code="a">Chinesisch</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4113214-2</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="3"><subfield code="a">Englisch</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4014777-0</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2="4"><subfield code="a">Infinite Verbform</subfield><subfield code="0">(DE-588)4161655-8</subfield><subfield code="D">s</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="689" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="5">DE-604</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2="8"><subfield code="i">Erscheint auch als</subfield><subfield code="n">Online-Ausgabe</subfield><subfield code="z">978-1-00-907250-2</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="856" ind1="4" ind2="2"><subfield code="m">HEBIS Datenaustausch</subfield><subfield code="q">application/pdf</subfield><subfield code="u">http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033790804&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA</subfield><subfield code="3">Inhaltsverzeichnis</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="999" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">oai:aleph.bib-bvb.de:BVB01-033790804</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
