adam_text | Spring 2020 ORAL HISTORY 1 NOTES ON CONTRIBUTORS ALAN BUTLER founded the Plymouth LGBT Archive as part of his AHRC-funded PhD, which comprised oral history interviews along with memorabilia about the performance of LGBT identity in the city. He is Vice Chair of the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ Special Interest Group, a trustee of Pride in Plymouth and a research fellow at the University of Plymouth. CONTENTS SUSANNE HAKUBA is a photographer based in the UK and Germany, particularly interested in combining photography and (oral) history in new, engaging ways. In her art practice she explores and unravels complex issues around the themes of identity, memory and history. SURAT-SHAAN KNAN is a heritage professional and equality campaigner based in London. He founded the landmark oral history projects ‘Rainbow Jews , Twilight People , ‘Rainbow Pilgrims’ and ‘Lily’s Legacy , supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and hosted by Liberal Judaism. He holds an MA in theatre studies, and is currently preparing for a PhD researching gender diversity in faith traditions. GEORGE J SEVERS is writing up his PhD thesis on HIV/AIDS activism in England 19821997 at the University of Cambridge, where he co-convenesthe Genderand Sexuality History Workshop. He is Secretary of the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ Special Interest Group, and 2019-20 Holstein Fellow in Religious Studies at the University of California, Riverside. She is the author of The Lives of Older Lesbians: Sexuality, Identity and the Life Course (Palgrave Macmillan, 2016) and Now You See Me: Lesbian Ufe Stories (Tollington Press, 2018). EMMA VICKERS is a senior lecturer in history at Liverpool John Moores University. Her most recent work on psychotherapy, unexpected trauma and oral testimony was published in the Oral History
Review in 2019. She has written widely on gender and sexuality in Britain, including Queen and Country: Same-Sex Desire in the British Armed Forces, 1939-1945 (Manchester University Press, 2012) and Genderand the Second World Warwith CM Peniston-Bird (Palgrave, 2016). CHRISTINE WALL is professor of architectural history, University of Westminster. Her widely published research combines oral histories with documentary and visual sources to reveal social histories of production in the built environment.
