| Zusammenfassung: | For the first time in many months, thirty-seven musicians from the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra come together under the baton of Lahav Shani for this exceptional program under exceptional circumstances! Prokofiev's "Classical" Symphony No. 1 begins the evening--one of the first and greatest examples of 20th-century neoclassicism, consciously styled after Haydn but unmistakably the work of the Russian master. Acclaimed soprano Daniela Skorka lends her talents to Paul Ben-Haim's Three Songs Without Words, evocative miniatures inspired by Israeli landscapes and Jewish folk tunes, before the ensemble turns to Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, an unqualified masterpiece of rhythm, form, and development that ranks among the most stirring works in the repertoire. Lahav Shani, a worthy successor to the great Zubin Mehta--whose 50-year tenure at the head of the orchestra ended in 2019--has already developed a rich and dynamic rapport with the musicians of the IPO, on glorious display here in their home venue, the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv.
