Summary:At the Verbier Festival 2011, the bass baritone Bryn Terfel, accompanied by the pianist Llyr Williams, performs during a recital a cycle of "Lieder" composed by Schubert and Schumann, then Roger Quilter's Three Shakespeare Songs, Op. 6 and Arrigo Boito's powerful Mefistofele. After his outstanding rendition of Don Giovanni in 2009, the Verbier Festival welcomes for the second time the charismatic and generous Welsh singer Bryn Terfel, with his sublime voice. Alongside him, the pianist Llyr Williams performs the program with lot of depth and finesse. This vocal program is highly poetic. It allies "Lieder" composed by Schubert, including the wonderful Liebesbotschaft composed after a poem written by Ludwig Rellstab (the "love message") extract of his collection of fourteen "Lieder" Schwanengesang, published after the composer's death and Schumann's twelve Liederkreis, a masterpiece of the Romantic repertoire. As a literary man, Schumann, was particularly interested about the link he could create between words and music. In this way, he gave a musical poetry to the texts written by Joseph von Eichendorff
