Playing with the most outstanding musicians of his generation (Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perlman, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Jacqueline Du Pré), Pinchas Zukerman interprets here the Sonatina Op. 137 No. 2, a subtle piece from 1816 in which the young Schubert, aged only 19, demonstrates his command of the musical form and his artistic sensibility. Akin to the Lied, the melodic lines have natural inflexions and the apparent simplicity of what seems to be spontaneous.
