Zusammenfassung: | "Through archival work and storytelling synthesis, Music Migration and Imperial New York revises, subverts, and supplements many inherited narratives about experimental music and arts in postwar New York into a sweeping new whole. From the urban street-level via music clubs and arts institutions to the world-making routes of global migration and exchange, this book seeks to redraw the geographies of experimental art and so to reveal the imperial dynamics, as well as profoundly racialized and gendered power relations, that shaped and continue to shape the discourses and practices of modern music in the United States. Beginning with the material conditions of power that structured the cityscape of New York in the early Cold War years (ca. 1957 to 1963), Brigid Cohen's book encompasses a considerably wider range of people and practices than is usual in studies of the music of this period. It looks at a range of artistic practices (concert music, electronic music, jazz, performance art) and actors (Varèse, Mingus, Yoko Ono, and Fluxus founder George Maciunas) as they experimented with new modes of creativity"-- |

Beginning with the material conditions of power that structured the cityscape of New York in the early Cold War years (ca. 1957 to 1963), Brigid Cohen's book encompasses a considerably wider range of people and practices than is usual in studies of the music of this period. It looks at a range of artistic practices (concert music, electronic music, jazz, performance art) and actors (Varèse, Mingus, Yoko Ono, and Fluxus founder George Maciunas) as they experimented with new modes of creativity"-- Geschichte 1957-1963 gnd rswk-swf Experiment (DE-588)4015999-1 gnd rswk-swf Experimentelle Musik (DE-588)4153365-3 gnd rswk-swf Musiklokal (DE-588)4745743-0 gnd rswk-swf Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 gnd rswk-swf New York, NY (DE-588)4042011-5 gnd rswk-swf Music / New York (State) / New York / 20th century / History and criticism Avant-garde (Music) / New York (State) / New York / History / 20th century Musique expérimentale / New York (État) / New York / Histoire / 20e siècle Avant-garde (Music) Music New York (State) / New York 1900-1999 Criticism, interpretation, etc History New York, NY (DE-588)4042011-5 g Experimentelle Musik (DE-588)4153365-3 s Kunst (DE-588)4114333-4 s Experiment (DE-588)4015999-1 s Musiklokal (DE-588)4745743-0 s Geschichte 1957-1963 z DE-604 Digitalisierung BSB München - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033672885&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis |
