Zusammenfassung: | "Victorian studies scholars have long studied the impact of Charles Darwin's writings on nineteenth-century culture. However, few have ventured to examine the precursors to the ideas of Darwin and others in the Romantic period. 'Marking time', edited by Joel Faflak, analyses prevailing notions of evolution by tracing its origins to the literary, scientific, and philosophical discourses of the long nineteenth century. The volume's contributors revisit key developments in the history of evolution prior to 'On the origin of species' and explore British and European Romanticism's negotiation between the classic idea of a great immutable chain of being and modern notions of historical change. 'Marking time' reveals how Romantic and post-Romantic configurations of historical, socio-cultural, scientific, and philosophical transformation continue to exert a profound influence on critical and cultural thought."--The dustjacket |

'Marking time' reveals how Romantic and post-Romantic configurations of historical, socio-cultural, scientific, and philosophical transformation continue to exert a profound influence on critical and cultural thought."--The dustjacket This work is licensed under a Creative Commons license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode Kant, Immanuel 1724-1804 (DE-588)118559796 gnd rswk-swf Malthus, Thomas Robert 1766-1834 (DE-588)118576860 gnd rswk-swf Goethe, Johann Wolfgang von 1749-1832 (DE-588)118540238 gnd rswk-swf Schelling, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von 1775-1854 (DE-588)118607057 gnd rswk-swf Darwin, Charles 1809-1882 (DE-588)118523813 gnd rswk-swf Littérature et sciences Histoire Romantisme Evolution (Biology) in literature Evolution (Biology) Philosophy Literature and science romanticism (form of expression) Romanticism SCIENCE History Evolution (Biology) Philosophy History 18th century Evolution (Biology) Philosophy History 19th century Literature and science History 18th century Literature and science History 19th century Evolution Motiv (DE-588)4153281-8 gnd rswk-swf 1700-1899 History (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Schelling, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von 1775-1854 (DE-588)118607057 p Kant, Immanuel 1724-1804 (DE-588)118559796 p Goethe, Johann Wolfgang von 1749-1832 (DE-588)118540238 p Malthus, Thomas Robert 1766-1834 (DE-588)118576860 p Evolution Motiv (DE-588)4153281-8 s Darwin, Charles 1809-1882 (DE-588)118523813 p DE-604 Faflak, Joel editor oth Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe Marking time Toronto ; University of Toronto Press, [2017] 9781442644304 (hardcover : acid-free paper) https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1649739 Verlag kostenfrei Volltext |
