Zusammenfassung: | Along with linked modes of religiosity, music and dance have long occupied a central position in the ways in which Atlantic peoples have enacted, made sense of, and responded to their encounters with each other. This unique collection of essays connects nations from across the Atlantic---Senegal, Kenya, Trinidad, Cuba, Brazil, and the United States, among others---highlighting contemporary popular, folkloric, and religious music and dance. By tracking the continuous reframing, revision, and erasure of aural, oral, and corporeal traces, the contributors to Rhythms of the Afro-Atlantic World collectively argue that music and dance are the living evidence of a constant (re)composition and (re)mixing of local sounds and gestures |

This unique collection of essays connects nations from across the Atlantic---Senegal, Kenya, Trinidad, Cuba, Brazil, and the United States, among others---highlighting contemporary popular, folkloric, and religious music and dance. By tracking the continuous reframing, revision, and erasure of aural, oral, and corporeal traces, the contributors to Rhythms of the Afro-Atlantic World collectively argue that music and dance are the living evidence of a constant (re)composition and (re)mixing of local sounds and gestures Geschichte gnd rswk-swf Danse Histoire Hip-hop Musique populaire Histoire et critique Black people Music Dance HISTORY West MUSIC Ethnomusicology Popular music Black people Caribbean Area Music History and criticism Dance Caribbean Area History Hip-hop Africa Popular music Caribbean Area History and criticism Afroamerikanische Musik (DE-588)4122767-0 gnd rswk-swf Afroamerikanischer Tanz (DE-588)4122768-2 gnd rswk-swf Karibik (DE-588)4073241-1 gnd rswk-swf Amerika (DE-588)4001670-5 gnd rswk-swf Africa Caribbean Area Electronic books Criticism, interpretation, etc History (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Amerika (DE-588)4001670-5 g Karibik (DE-588)4073241-1 g Afroamerikanische Musik (DE-588)4122767-0 s Afroamerikanischer Tanz (DE-588)4122768-2 s Geschichte z DE-604 Diouf, Mamadou Sonstige oth Nwankwo, Ifeoma Kiddoe Sonstige oth Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe Rhythms of the Afro-Atlantic world Ann Arbor : University of Michigan Press, ©2010 9780472070961 https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=350156 Verlag kostenfrei Volltext data file This work is licensed under a Creative Commons license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode |
