Zusammenfassung: | "Strategic voting is classically defined as "voting for one's second preferred option to prevent one's least preferred option from winning when one's first preference has no chance." Voters want their votes to be effective, and casting a ballot that will have no influence on an election is undesirable--therefore, some voters cast a strategic ballot when they decide it is useful. This edited volume includes case studies of strategic voting behavior in Israel, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Canada, and the UK, and provides a conceptual framework for understanding strategic voting behavior in all types of electoral systems. The classic definition explicitly considers strategic voting in a single race with a single winner, which has at least three candidates. This situation is more common in electoral systems that have single member districts that employ plurality or majoritarian electoral rules and have multiparty systems. Indeed, much of the literature on strategic voting to date has considered systems like those in Canada and the United Kingdom. This book contributes to a more general understanding of strategic voting behavior by taking into account a wide variety of institutional contexts, such as single transferable vote rules, proportional representation, two round and mixed electoral systems"-- |

Voters want their votes to be effective, and casting a ballot that will have no influence on an election is undesirable--therefore, some voters cast a strategic ballot when they decide it is useful. This book contributes to a more general understanding of strategic voting behavior by taking into account a wide variety of institutional contexts, such as single transferable vote rules, proportional representation, two round and mixed electoral systems"-- Élections Gouvernement représentatif Vote Elections Political parties POLITICAL SCIENCE General POLITICAL SCIENCE Political Process Representative government and representation Voting Elections Cross-cultural studies Political parties Cross-cultural studies Representative government and representation Cross-cultural studies Voting Cross-cultural studies Internationaler Vergleich (DE-588)4120509-1 gnd rswk-swf Taktik (DE-588)4058940-7 gnd rswk-swf Wahlverhalten (DE-588)4079009-5 gnd rswk-swf Wahlsystem (DE-588)4139210-3 gnd rswk-swf Electronic books Cross-cultural studies (DE-588)4143413-4 Aufsatzsammlung gnd-content Wahlsystem (DE-588)4139210-3 s Wahlverhalten (DE-588)4079009-5 s Taktik (DE-588)4058940-7 s Internationaler Vergleich (DE-588)4120509-1 s DE-604 Aldrich, John H. 1947- edt Blais, André 1947- edt Stephenson, Laura Beth 1976- (DE-588)1083064207 edt Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe Many faces of strategic voting Ann Arbor : University of Michigan Press, [2018] 9780472131020 https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&scope=site&db=nlebk&AN=1942576 Verlag kostenfrei Volltext This work is licensed by Knowledge Unlatched under a Creative Commons license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode This work is licensed under a Creative Commons license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode |
