| Beschreibung: | The Ombudsperson Office is an important human rights institution within the human rights institutional framework in Croatia. In new democracies, where human rights culture is still developing, it is a good model to have a part of central Ombudsperson institution also other independent human rights institutions. Specialized Ombudspersons for gender equality, children and persons with disabilities have contributed to the human rights protection although there were attempts to merge those specialized institutions with central Ombudsperson office. Ombudsperson in Croatia has legal precondition for its independent work, although political attacks on Ombudspersons offices are frequent. Ombudspersons (general and specialized one) may get more political weight through the stronger support of general public to their work and through increased collaboration with other human rights institutions and civil society organizations |
