Zusammenfassung: | "This chapter focuses on how the rise of platforms is changing our media environment, where publishers still control the production of news content, but platform companies increasingly control the channels through which people access it. It identifies the new, distinct, generative and relational forms of power that platforms including Facebook, Google, and Twitter exercise and examines how news publishers have responded. It argues that previously powerful and relatively independent institutions like the news media are increasingly in a position akin to that of ordinary users-they are simultaneously increasingly empowered by and dependent upon a small number of powerful platforms"-- |

M ORE PEOPLE TODAY CONSUME NEWS via Facebook, Twitter, and Google than from any news organization in history. Most of the content we rely on is still pro duced by journalists at news organizations, but, as this book argues, there have been rapid changes in how we discover news, how it is distributed, where decisions are made on what to display (and what not), and in who profits from these flows of information. In The Power of Platforms, Rasmus Kleis Nielsen and Sarah Anne Ganter draw on interviews and other qualitative evidence from the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom to analyze the platform power that a few technology companies have come to exercise in public life, the reservations publishers have about platforms, and the reasons why publishers often embrace them nonetheless. Rasmus Kleis Nielsen is Director of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and Professor of Political Communication at the University of Oxford. Sarah Anne Ganter is Assistant Professor of Communication and Cultural Policy in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.

It identifies the new, distinct, generative and relational forms of power that platforms including Facebook, Google, and Twitter exercise and examines how news publishers have responded. It argues that previously powerful and relatively independent institutions like the news media are increasingly in a position akin to that of ordinary users-they are simultaneously increasingly empowered by and dependent upon a small number of powerful platforms"-- Nachricht (DE-588)4127996-7 gnd rswk-swf Journalismus (DE-588)4028779-8 gnd rswk-swf Zeitungsverlag (DE-588)4128151-2 gnd rswk-swf Internet (DE-588)4308416-3 gnd rswk-swf Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 gnd rswk-swf Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 gnd rswk-swf USA (DE-588)4078704-7 gnd rswk-swf Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 gnd rswk-swf Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 gnd rswk-swf Technology / Sociological aspects Social media and society Information technology / Psychological aspects Information technology / Social aspects Technologie / Aspect sociologique Médias sociaux et société Technologie de l'information / Aspect psychologique Technologie de l'information / Aspect social Frankreich (DE-588)4018145-5 g Deutschland (DE-588)4011882-4 g Großbritannien (DE-588)4022153-2 g USA (DE-588)4078704-7 g Journalismus (DE-588)4028779-8 s Zeitungsverlag (DE-588)4128151-2 s Nachricht (DE-588)4127996-7 s Rezeption (DE-588)4049716-1 s Internet (DE-588)4308416-3 s DE-604 Ganter, Sarah Sonstige (DE-588)1066809844 oth Erscheint auch als Online-Ausgabe, EPUB 978-0-19-090888-1 Digitalisierung UB Regensburg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033339526&sequence=000001&line_number=0001&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Inhaltsverzeichnis Digitalisierung UB Regensburg - ADAM Catalogue Enrichment application/pdf http://bvbr.bib-bvb.de:8991/F?func=service&doc_library=BVB01&local_base=BVB01&doc_number=033339526&sequence=000003&line_number=0002&func_code=DB_RECORDS&service_type=MEDIA Klappentext |
