Zusammenfassung: | Despite their opposite emotional effects, humor and horror are highly similar phenomena. They both can be traced back to (the detection, resolution, and emotional elaboration of) incongruities, understood as semantic violations through unexpected combinations of oppositional information. However, theoretical and experimental comparisons between humor and resolvable incongruities that elicit other emotions than exhilaration have been lacking so far. To gain more insights into the linguistic differences between humor and horror and the cognitive real-time processing of both, a main concern of this book is to discuss the transferability of linguistic humor theories to a systematic horror investigation and directly compare self-paced reading times (SPR), facial actions (FACS), and event-related brain potentials (ERP) of normed minimal quadruplets with frightening and humorous incongruities as well as (in)coherent stimuli. The results suggest that humor and horror share cognitive resources to detect and resolve incongruities. To better distinguish humor from neighboring phenomena, this book refines current humor theories by incorporating humor and horror in a cognitive incongruity processing model |

To better distinguish humor from neighboring phenomena, this book refines current humor theories by incorporating humor and horror in a cognitive incongruity processing model Horror Humor Inkongruenz Inkongruenz gnd Humor gnd Horror gnd LANGUAGE ARTS & DISCIPLINES / Communication Studies bisacsh Emotive (Linguistics) Wit and humor Humor (DE-588)4026170-0 gnd rswk-swf Horror (DE-588)4201995-3 gnd rswk-swf Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 gnd rswk-swf Inkongruenz (DE-588)106428129X gnd rswk-swf Psycholinguistik (DE-588)4127537-8 gnd rswk-swf (DE-588)4113937-9 Hochschulschrift gnd-content Humor (DE-588)4026170-0 s Horror (DE-588)4201995-3 s Inkongruenz (DE-588)106428129X s Theorie (DE-588)4059787-8 s DE-604 Psycholinguistik (DE-588)4127537-8 s Erscheint auch als Druck-Ausgabe 978-3-11-076468-0 (DE-604)BV047911330 Humor Research [HR] volume 13 (DE-604)BV046751092 13 https://doi.org/10.1515/9783110764741 Verlag URL des Erstveröffentlichers Volltext |
